The Office of the Labour Commissioner, Jammu and Kashmir, has issued Circular No. 05-LC of 2024, dated September 2, 2024, emphasizing the mandatory observance of a weekly “Close Day” for all shops and commercial establishments within the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
This directive is in accordance with Section-13 of the Jammu and Kashmir Shops & Establishment Act, 1966, which requires registered businesses to close one day a week. Despite this requirement, many establishments have been found to be non-compliant. The circular mandates strict adherence to this provision and outlines the consequences for violations.
